Many people are beginning to discuss the idea that religion is outdated, and that it is a reflection of a darker era in our modern world.
I'd like to open this debate with a very controversial statement:
"Scriptures, such as the bible, are sadistic methods used for controlling a population. Before law and order, stories and tales were used to manipulate people into abiding by rules. Commandments and rules mark the foundations for the first laws, and these laws reflected the opinions of the people who wrote them".
Since they were written so long ago, in such a vastly different world, should people still follow them? Should these rules and writings still be used, or is it time to accept that these cannot reflect the modern world anymore?
Follow-up question if you agree: How could we possibly begin to deconstruct these ideas, as well as the organizations that continue to express them? Should we even try to deconstruct them?
Follow-up question if you disagree: If religion should remain a part of our culture, do we need to begin considering a way to modify it? Change it and make it more relevant to today's society? How could we do this?
